About This Event
This two day professional learning experience is designed to build educator confidence and capability in identifying, assessing, and supporting EAL/D learners using the NLLIA ESL Bandscales.
The training will support educators to deepen their understanding of who their EAL/D learners are, including international, migrant, refugee, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and how English language development impacts access to learning. Participants will explore how the NLLIA Bandscales can be used as a consistent, strengths based framework to inform effective teaching, differentiation, and inclusive practice for all EAL/D learners.
Across the two days, participants will:
develop a clear understanding of EAL/D learners and their diverse language learning trajectories
unpack the NLLIA ESL Bandscales in a practical and accessible way
engage with student work samples to build confidence in identifying language features and making consistent judgements
explore how Bandscale data can be used to plan targeted teaching, differentiation, and support
strengthen consistency of practice across classrooms and school teams
Participants are expected to attend both days to gain the full benefit of the learning experience.
A follow up moderation session will be offered in October to consolidate learning, collaboratively moderate student work samples, and strengthen consistency in Bandscale application across schools.
Please note: Registration and payment for the October moderation session is separate and not included in this two-day training. Please click here to book.
