Dr Jenny Donovan
Dr Jenny Donovan is the inaugural CEO of the Australian Education Research Organisation. Prior to this role, she established and led the Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE) as Executive Director for 8 years.
Dr Donovan began her career as a high school teacher in Sydney’s western suburbs. She has worked in a number of education roles in operational and policy areas, including some years as Deputy Director of a not-for-profit education assessment agency at the University of New South Wales.
In 2023, she was a member of Professor Mark Scott’s Teacher Education Expert Panel which delivered recommendations for reform to Initial Teacher Education that were accepted by Australia’s Education Ministers. As a result, an evidence-based core curriculum will be implemented in all initial teacher education.
In 2024, Jenny was appointed as an Adjunct Associate Professor at La Trobe University’s School of Education.
Jenny holds a Bachelor of Arts with a Diploma of Education from Macquarie University, an MA (Hons) from UNSW and a PhD in history from the University of Sydney.
Adam Ferrier
In other news Adam is also the author of two books “The Advertising Effect” (Oxford), and ‘Stop Listening to the Customer’ (Wiley). Adam co-hosts the potentially multi-awarding winning podcast ‘Black T-Shirts’, and is a regular media commentator on Sunrise and Gruen.
Leigh Sales AM
of the country’s most recognised and respected journalists. From
2011 to 2022, she presented the ABC’s flagship evening current
affairs program, 7.30, as well as being the face of major news
coverage for the network, including federal elections and budget
nights. She has been a foreign correspondent based in Washington
DC, covered various rounds including national security and
politics, and worked for TV, radio, print and digital.
She is the author of five books: Detainee 002: The Case of David
Hicks (2007), On Doubt (2009), Well Hello (2021), the national
bestseller Any Ordinary Day (2018) and her latest work Storytellers:
Questions, Answers & the Craft of Journalism (2023).
Leigh co-hosts a wildly popular podcast called Chat 10, Looks 3
with her friend Annabel Crabb. It attracts hundreds of thousands
of downloads each month, performs sell-out live shows around
Australia and covers subjects ranging from arts and culture to
friendship and grief.
Leigh also anchors the popular ABC TV program The Assembly, in
which she mentors a group of autistic journalism trainees, helping
them interview well-known Australians.
Leigh has been decorated with many honours, including three
Walkley awards for journalism and an Order of Australia for
her public service. She has also been awarded two honorary
doctorates - from the Queensland University of Technology and
Edith Cowan University - in recognition of her achievements in
journalism.
Anna Bligh AC
mother of two sons. Until 2012, when she moved to NSW, Anna
had lived in Queensland all her life. From her school days and
then at Queensland University (UQ), Anna displayed a burning
desire to make a difference. With passion, commitment and
leadership, she strived to make Australia a better place.
In 2007 Anna became the first female Premier of Queensland,
but her legacy will be the exceptional leadership she provided
during the flood and storm disasters of 2011. Her presence and
compassion reassured Queenslanders that help was on its way.
Reconstruction of homes, businesses and infrastructure was
her priority, and Anna led the restoration charge, never shirking
accountability.
Anna entered politics in 1995 and held major portfolios where
her energy and drive delivered significant policy reforms.
In Education, she drove early childhood learning reforms.
As Treasurer and Premier, she oversaw Australia’s largest
infrastructure program, including new export capacity,
major roads, public transport and a $9bn Water Grid. She
also championed social reform, environmental initiatives and
governance improvements.
Anna holds an Honorary Doctorate from UQ and Australia’s
National Emergency Medal. Since 2017, she has led the
Australian Banking Association through critical reform. Anna is
the author of Through the Wall and a Companion of the Order
of Australia.
Bernard Salt AM
After a 20-year career as a Partner in a global advisory firm, Bernard founded The Demographics Group, where he provides advisory, media and speaking services focused on demographic, consumer and property trends. He is widely recognised for identifying and naming emerging social behaviours, including the now-famous “goat’s cheese curtain”.
Bernard has been a columnist with The Australian for more than 20 years, with his writing in The Weekend Australian Magazine both highly regarded and widely read. His work combines data-driven analysis with an engaging, accessible style that resonates with both business and public audiences.
He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2017 Australia Day Honours for his service to the community through demography. And, perhaps most famously, he is credited with popularising the phrase “smashed avocado” around the world.
Selwyn Button
Prior to joining the Commission, Selwyn was partner of PwC Indigenous Consulting (PIC), where he worked with a range of organisations to realise the commercial and community potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business, projects and initiatives. Previously, Selwyn has been the national Registrar of the Office of the Registrar for Indigenous Corporations, the Assistant Director-General for Indigenous Education in Queensland, Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council, and Chair of the Lowitja Institute.
Selwyn has led major policy, service delivery, governance and legislative reforms in his various leadership roles. He has also made significant contributions through his service as a board member of numerous sporting, arts, culture, health and early childhood education and care organisations.
A former primary school teacher and Queensland police officer, Selwyn holds a Bachelor of Teaching, a Master of Public Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration. He was a Wolfensohn Scholar at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and is an active member of the Harvard Club of Australia.
Selwyn co-leads the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stream of work at the PC. Selwyn is currently working on the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Agreement Review inquiry.
Chris Veraa
With a career spanning tertiary education, government, and media, Chris is passionate about QTAC’s critical social mission, and is deeply committed to driving innovation and delivering lasting impact for QTAC and the communities it serves.
Prior to joining QTAC, Chris was an Associate Vice-President at Central Queensland University, with responsibility for leading the institution’s national strategic engagement portfolio and its operations in South East Queensland. He has also held senior roles in the Victorian and Queensland governments and with Australian Catholic University, following an early career in print and online journalism.
Chris holds an Executive MBA from Queensland University of Technology and a Bachelor of Communication from Griffith University. He is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and currently serves as a non-executive director of both API Leisure & Lifestyle/Canopy Community
and the Gregory Terrace Foundation.
Professor Cindy Shannon AM
Cindy has led the development and implementation of Australia’s first degree-level program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers, major reforms in Indigenous health and played a key role in supporting the establishment of the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health in South-East Queensland.
Prof Shannon served on the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) from 2005–2012 and is the former Chair of the Queensland Ministerial Advisory Committee on Sexual Health; current patron and former Chair of the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation; and is a member of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Board.
In 2017, Cindy was recognised as a Queensland Great for contributions to Indigenous Health and Education and, in 2020, was made a Member of the Order of Australia (in general division) for contributions to Medical Education and Indigenous Health. In 2022, Prof Shannon won the AMA Queensland Excellence in Health Care Medical.
Derek Scott
Derek is also the Chair of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority. In 2019 he was awarded the Australian Principal of the Year at the Australian Education Awards. In 2022 he was presented with the International Education Association of Australia’s Leadership in International Education Award.
Anna Dore
Anna’s leadership in teaching and learning is grounded in contemporary research, data, and evidence-based practice. She has overseen the development of a Teaching and Learning Framework, supported curriculum alignment and regulatory compliance, and championed inclusive education so that every learner can access meaningful, personalised pathways. She brings deep capability in governance and safeguarding, including the development of student protection processes and staff training, and works closely with the Board and Executive team to translate strategy into effective practice.
Anna holds a Master of Educational Leadership (Australian Catholic University) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). She contributes to sector initiatives through Independent Schools Queensland/Parent Network programs, serves on the UniSC School of Education and Tertiary Access (SETA) External Advisory Committee, is a member of a leading girls school Learning and Wellbeing Sub-Committee, and is currently leading work to strengthen parent engagement and guide the safe and ethical use of generative AI in schools.
Daniel Pinchas
Danny has more than 15 years’ experience as a leader across the education sector and joined AITSL in 2013. As General Manager, Teaching and School Leadership, Danny leads AITSL’s work across initial teacher education reform, quality teaching support, and school leadership development. Danny’s responsibilities involve driving and supporting the development and implementation of a range of policy initiatives and resources to empower teachers and school leaders.
Prior to joining AITSL, Danny held positions at the Victorian Department of Education and before that, spent several years in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, working in remote communities as a principal, teacher, and numeracy coach.
Corina Chen
As an immigration lawyer, Corina assists clients with a full range of migration advisory and visa application services. With an exceptional record in securing temporary and permanent visas for private clients, Corina is also experienced in assisting corporate clients with their inbound mobility requirements, including for secondments and new hires, and handling high-volume transactions for both local and multinational businesses on short notice.
Deanne Fishburn
Deanne began her journey at the QCT with the Professional Standards Unit in 2007 and has since played a key role in implementing national reforms for Initial Teacher Education and Professional Standards in Queensland. She is a registered teacher and a recognised leader with significant influence on teacher regulation across Australia.
Through her time as a teacher and now in regulatory work, Deanne recognises the complexities of teaching. She is strongly committed to the priorities of the QCT in upholding high standards for the profession, child safeguarding and promoting the work of Queensland teachers.
As Director, Deanne supports the QCT Board in delivering the Strategic Plan and administering the legislative functions to efficiently regulate the teaching profession in Queensland.
In addition to her teaching qualifications, Deanne holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) majoring in public policy and is a graduate of the Company Directors course of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Deanne has been the Convenor of the Australasian Teacher Regulatory Authorities (ATRA) since 2023 and will pass on this role in July 2026. She was the Convenor of the 2024 International Forum of Teacher Regulatory Authorities (IFTRA) Conference held in Brisbane, Australia.

As a Christian leader, she seeks to lead with faith, wisdom, and service.
David Ferguson
A qualified secondary school teacher and TESOL educator, David brings extensive experience across schools, universities, and language school settings in Australia and abroad. He holds postgraduate qualifications in both education and business, combining pedagogical expertise with strategic planning and implementation capabilities. David’s work focuses on creating sustainable, research-driven approaches to international education that deliver measurable student outcomes while enhancing operational excellence.
Rebecca Storck
Rebecca began her career teaching in early childhood education in mobile kindergartens serving rural and remote communities. She later expanded her teaching experience to include roles in rural New South Wales Primary schools and moved into a leadership position in a non-state secondary boarding school. Over time, her career progressed into regulatory and leadership positions in the early childhood education sector and, subsequently, the non-state schooling sector. In this capacity, Rebecca supports the Board to fulfil its legislative responsibilities effectively.
In her current role, Rebecca is deeply committed to working collaboratively with the non-state school sector, including governing bodies, schools and peak organisations, to ensure the delivery of high-quality education while supporting parental choice in schooling. Through her emphasis on proactive regulation, relationship-driven leadership, and fostering strong stakeholder partnerships, Rebecca continuously drives the mission of empowering Queensland children and families to access exceptional non-state school education opportunities.
Phil Butler
With broad experience across NFP and Public Sector boards, Phil also hosts the AICD podcast Boards with Purpose, focused on governance insights and leadership across the not for profit sector.
Dr Bronwyn Dolling
Through collaborative leadership, there has been a focus on growing staff, students and parents as curious and capable learners and leaders through immersion in a culture of thinking that is research-informed. Holistic growth and co-agency have been encouraged through contemporary pedagogies that have grown capacity across the Four Pillars of Learning To Be, Learning Together, Learning to Learn and Learning to Know and Do.
Bronwyn has served on the QCAA Curriculum Committee and ISQ Education Committee and been recognised within The Educator Hot List for 2020. Bronwyn has a passion for the leadership development of teachers within Lutheran schools including being part of the team that produced the Growing Deep document.
